Mission Statement of Area Community Health Emissaries, Inc.
“To secure improved quality of life for youth and families of southwest Missouri by providing education, services, and programs that promote physical, mental, emotional, economic and spiritual well-being through a collaboration of public and private resources.”
Description:
We provide dental care for children on Missouri MC+ Medicaid. We also do school screenings in the area for the purpose of educating children in proper dental hygiene, provide toothbrushes, tooth paste and other dental supplies, and inform children and parents of our services.
History:
In the Summer of 2000 it as brought to the attention of the directors of Crosslines of McDonald Co. that there was a need for dental care for the underprivileged in McDonald Co. and the surrounding area. That fall the McDonald Co. Dental Coalition was formed with the help of the United Methodist Church Office of Creative Ministries. They began with screening to establish a base of information then went on to provide services via portable clinics with equipment provided by the state. In the fall of 2001 school screenings were held again. An average of 30% of children had visible signs of untreated tooth decay. In 2002 work was begun to open a clinic and purchase new equipment. In 2003 the Pineville clinic opened two days a week, by 2004 that clinic was not adequate for the amount of patients we were seeing. In 2005 a 6,000 sq. ft. building was purchased in Anderson Mo. Since then we have opened clinics in Neosho, Carthage, and Nevada Missouri.
